Ukraine should remain a leader in science and technology, says Volodymyr Groysman in a statement at the the NASU GA

Гkraine is committed to a critical mission - to become a country with a sound economy. And one of the key factors that allow us to achieve the goal is the development of science and technology. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during the General Assembly of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU) on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. The Head of Government noted that the history of the Academy of Sciences is a history of scientific victories of the global scale. And now it is vital to think about the development, modernization of the scientific environment.

"Ukraine should remain a leader in science and technology", said Volodymyr Groysman. "We should take a fresh look at the development of science and the approaches of state support to science. We can see the achievements that we can apply in a number of areas."

The Head of Government noted that one of such new approaches would be the work of the National Council for Science and Technology and the Research Fund that in the upcoming year would shape a kind of infrastructure aimed to provide the proper level and funding for research, as well as the application of solutions in the real sector of the economy.

"We understand that the upcoming years will be no less dynamic (in the plane of scientific development), as we will face different challenges. And we are aware that the proper level of support for science is the key to success of the whole country", said Volodymyr Groysman.

Taking the opportunity the PM congratulated Borys Paton, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the anniversary.

Background 

Annually, the institutions of the National Academy of Sciences carry out about 3,000 works for enterprises, about 1,000 inventions are implemented in industry. Areas of application of scientific solutions include power engineering, transport, aircraft and rocket building, metallurgy, health care, defense, and security. Next year the budget of science development will amount to UAH 9.4 billion. Priority areas for scientific solutions are determined as follows: cybercrime, information security, energy development, primarily in the energy saving segment and the use of recoverable resources.
