Ukraine and Germany sign Memorandum of Understanding on joint collaboration in science and technology until 2018

Representatives of Ukraine and Germany signed a memorandum on the extension of scientific and technical collaboration for the next two years. The signing took place under the auspices of the meeting of a bilateral commission on scientific and technical collaboration between Ukraine and Germany, which was held 13 July at the  Adlershof Science and Technology Park in Berlin.

 “The signing of the joint declaration is part of the normal and systematic work by the bilateral commission on scientific and technical collaboration between our countries. The Memorandum determines the due process of our interaction and specifies the procedures and terms of the selection of joint scientific projects to be financed by the Ukrainian and German governments", said Maxym Strikha, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine and co-chair of the Commission for Scientific and Technological Collaboration.

In particular, the Memorandum anticipates that 60% of the funds allocated to finance bilateral projects will be directed to funding traditional projects, and 40% for projects that involve structural changes in the organisation of scientific research. In addition, the Memorandum provides for involvement in the evaluation of research projects by experts from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and it also determined that the next Working Committee meeting held in Kyiv in 2018.

Please note that a delegation of Ukrainian scientists and government officials led by Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, visited Berlin from 11 to 14 July. During the visit, a conference entitled German-Ukrainian Dialogue: Prospects for Education and Science focusing on Ukrainian-German collaboration in education and science was held, as well as a  working session of the bilateral commission on scientific and technological collaboration between Germany and Ukraine.
