Liliya Hrynevych details Ministry priorities in the reform of vocational education and training

During a national meeting of the Heads of Departments of Education Authorities, and the Rectors and Directors of regional institutes of postgraduate education in Sumy on 19 May 2016, Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, spoke about Ministry plans and proposals to reform the vocational education and training (VET) sector in Ukraine.

Liliya Hrynevych outlined the Ministry’s priority issues in the reform of the content of VET. In particular, the need to develop new standards for the content of VET that are aligned with the needs of the labour market for jobs that are trained for in vocational educational institutions, and to study the issue of the duplication of listed professions and occupations in VET colleges that are geographically close together.

The Minister noted  that certain professions will be chosen, which will be the foundation of a modern network of VET schools. Such networks will become an example for the proper functioning of the system. "This will create a new professions standard, defining the list of colleges that can actually implement updated material and updated resources. This will create a model that can be extended in work in other professions", explained the Minister.

The meeting also discussed joint activities between local authorities and businesses, including the funding of vocational educational and training in accordance with the requirements of the modern labour market.
