An agreement is signed on Ukraine's participation in EAEC research programmes

An agreement was signed on 27 June in Brussels between Ukraine and the European Atomic Energy Community on scientific and technological collaboration, and Ukraine’s associate participation in the Euratom research and study programme over 2014-2018. Pavlo Klimkin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed the agreement on behalf of Ukraine.

The signing was made possible by preliminary preparatory work and agreements between Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine and Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, before the signature was scheduled in June. "For us it was very important that the agreement was signed in June as the deadline for applications to participate in projects in 2017 is in the autumn. We are grateful that the European Commissioner Carlos Moedas agreed that the signing would take place as part of a mini-summit between Ukraine and the EU. I am convinced that this next important step in the convergence and integration of Ukrainian and European science will have good results", said Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine commenting on the signing.

Representatives of the European Union also expressed their hopes that scientific and technological collaboration between Ukraine and the European Atomic Energy Community will be productive.

"Ukraine with its high standards of research and potential for innovation offers a promising partnership with Europe. Ukraine now have access to the full spectrum of Euratom programmes and I hope that it will make the most of this opportunity, and conduct research for a successful future", said Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, after the signing.
