Europe offers a 95% reduction for Ukraine's participation in the Euratom programme of the EAEC
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has ratified an Act entitled Signing an Agreement between Ukraine and the European Atomic Energy Community on Scientific and Technological Collaboration and the Associated Participation of Ukraine in the Programme of Research and Study of Euratom (2014-2018).
The Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft document of the Agreement and designated the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine with the authority to sign.
"This programme is extremely important for Ukraine. The potential acquisition of the status of Associate Member opens the way for the participation of Ukrainian research establishments in promising projects in nuclear energy, which will contribute to the implementation of National Safety Standards of the EU", said Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, presenting the document at a Government session on 1 June 2016 .
Associate Membership of Ukraine in this programme provides financial contributions to the nation from the budget of the programme.
"The European side, in view of the current state of austerity related to the National Budget of Ukraine, has given us a reduction of 95% on the fees for the duration of the programme until 2018 with the possibility of extension of the Agreement to 2020", said Liliya Hrynevych.
According to preliminary calculations, the total contribution of Ukraine for the 2016 - 2018 period is likely to be almost 312,000 euros. The allocated contribution is then recalculated each year thereafter, based on the then current statistics of the GDP of participating countries.
The Minister stated that Ukraine’s payment of the first installment for 2016 will be carried forward, to installments payable in 2017 and 2018.
It should be noted that the total budget for research and study of Euratom is 1.6 billion euros. This programme is linked to Ukraine’s ratification of the Horizon 2020 programme, which has a budget of some 80 billion euros.
