Ministry of Education and Science and the Council for Higher Education of Turkey to update the format of joint work in higher education

A meeting took place at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on 23 May 2016 when the Minister, Liliya Hrynevych, met with a delegation of the Council for Higher Education of Turkey headed by Yekta Saraç, Council Chairman, and Yönet Can Tezel, Ambassador of Turkey to Ukraine.

During the meeting it was agreed to update the format of mutual work in higher education between Ukraine and Turkey. Liliya Hrynevych stated that the Turkish Government has provided from 45 to 50 scholarships each year for study in Turkish universities for Crimean Tatars and Meskhetian Turks. The Minister expressed her proposal to provide an appropriate number of places to Turkish citizens to study in Ukraine. The implementation of double diplomas between Turkish and Ukrainian universities was also considered. The priority in joint work between the countries was defined as partnership in scientific research between Ukrainian and Turkish universities.

Liliya Hrynevych said that Ukrainian educational establishments need native speaker lecturers in the Turkish language as this is a subject studied in a number of local schools and universities. Yekta Saraç, Council Chairman, expressed readiness on behalf of the Turkish side to support Ukraine in this regard. He also spoke about plans to introduce Ukrainian language studies at Istanbul University.

Yekta Saraç said that Ukraine and Turkey work together in many areas, but that collaboration in education forms a strong link between the two nations. Yekta Saraç stressed the need to develop and deepen joint work in education between the countries. During the visit, the delegation was scheduled to visit a number of leading universities in Ukraine, and representatives of the Council visited the National Aviation University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute National University of Technology of Ukraine.
