One of the key tasks of supporting Ukrainian students who were forced to leave Ukraine due to russia's military aggression is to maintain their connection with Ukrainian education system, to provide opportunities for continuing their studies under Ukrainian curriculum, in particular, studying Ukrainian language, literature and history, as well as getting education documents.
At the same time, it is important that education and learning are perceived as a stabilizing factor, not an additional source of stressful situations.
In addition, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine encourages teachers to re-establish contact with their students, to make efforts to ensure continuity of education.
1. How to organize learning for Ukrainian children abroad?
The most common learning options for school students from Ukraine are the following.
Option 1. If a school from Ukraine, where the children used to study in, has already organized distance learning, it is necessary to recommend students to join it. Parents should contact this educational institution.
It is advisable to create favourable conditions for maintaining contact with the educational institution and teachers - if possible, provide students with access to digital devices and high-speed Internet to join online classes and/or to complete tasks.
Option 2. In case the contact with the Ukrainian educational institution and its teachers is lost, Ukrainian students and their parents are recommended:
Such learning can be organized as a self-study or with involvement of volunteers, coordinators, teachers from Ukraine who temporarily reside abroad, and also by setting up classes and / or groups in educational institutions in the host country.
Option 3. Parents of school students can also apply to the International Ukrainian School (IUS) either directly or through one of the IUS partner organizations to get their children enrolled and involve them in distance learning.
Studies will be conducted according to Ukrainian state standards and educational programs, and graduation certificates will be issued by the International Ukrainian School (IUS).
2. How to plan effectively a school day and a school week for Ukrainian children abroad?
In order to organize educational process in a distance mode in the most convenient way, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine jointly with partners has launched the All-Ukrainian online schedule.
The interactive schedule includes links to materials from various resources (All-Ukrainian online school, TV lessons, textbooks, etc.) for all subjects according to the curriculum and is being updated weekly.
The online schedule for students of grades 1-11 is based on an interactive Google calendar available for everyone in real time.
3. What e-learning resources can be used to organize studies for Ukrainian school students in the host country?
The children can use any online-resources for group or individual activities, first of all the website and app (Google Play, App Store, App Gallery) of the All-Ukrainian Online School, where all educational materials for school children of grades 5-11 are placed.
The All-Ukrainian Online School is a state free e-platform for distance and blended learning of school students of grades 5-11 and methodical support for teachers. The platform offers video lessons, tests and materials for 18 basic school subjects. The lessons on the e-platform include an interesting short video, synopsis of the main questions of theory, tasks, schemes and maps, testing tasks for self-examination. Every topic has a final test, allowing to track progress in learning.
Ukrainian Language, Literature, Biology and Ecology, Geography, History, Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, Art, Law, Physics, Chemistry, English as well as classes for other subjects are available 24/7 from any device and any location.

4. Are there any guidance or recommendations on using the All-Ukrainian Online School platform?
Yes, Methodological materials on the organisation of distance and blended learning on the basis of the All-Ukrainian Online School have been developed and translated into English, French, German, Italian, Hungarian and Romanian.
5. As the All-Ukrainian Online School provides materials for school students of grades 5-11 only, what e-learning resources can be used for primary school students?
The All-Ukrainian Online Schedule provides materials for school students of grades 1-4. In addition it’s possible to use the materials of Ukrainian distance schools providing free access for everyone to study during the martial law.
6. Are there any instruments for final assessment of school students from Ukraine under the All-Ukrainian Online School (AOS) platform?
Currently the All-Ukrainian Online School doesn’t provide any unified formal mechanism to confirm curriculum completion by the school students at the AOS e-platform. But even under these circumstances it’s important to ensure students’ involvement in learning, to create appropriate conditions for maintaining students' connection with the Ukrainian education system.
7. Where can Ukrainian textbooks for teaching students from Ukraine be found?
E-versions (.pdf) of school textbooks can be downloaded for free from the e-library of the Institute of Educational Content Modernization.
8. Is there a summative attestation in the 2021/2022 academic year for school graduates completing primary, basic secondary or complete general secondary education (grades 4, 9, 11)?
In 2021/2022 academic year school graduates of complete general secondary education (grade 11) are exempted from taking the State Summative Attestation according to the provisions of Law “On the amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine in sphere of education” of March 24, 2022, № 2157-ІХ.
School graduates of primary (grade 4) and basic secondary education (grade 9) are exempted from taking the State Summative Attestation according to the MoES Order of February 28, 2022, № 232, registered at the Ministry of Justice on March 03, 2022, № 283/37619.
9. How to organize final assessment for 2021/2022 school year for students who do not graduate from primary, basic secondary, complete general secondary education (grades other than 4, 9, 11)?
If a student maintains contact with his / her educational institution in Ukraine and teachers (Option 1), the issue of final assessment is resolved by his/ her teacher and educational institution in Ukraine within their academic autonomy in accordance with Methodical guidelines on some issues of 2021/2022 academic year completion (MoES Order of April 1, 2022 № 290).
If a student has lost contact with a Ukrainian educational institution and his/ her teachers (Option 2) the final assessment may be carried out by Ukrainian educational institution based on available results of final and / or current assessment, for example, results of the first school semester.
If a student is enrolled in the International Ukrainian School (Option 3), the final assessment is carried out by the IUS.
10. If a student completes primary, basic secondary, complete general secondary education this year and is abroad, will he / she be able to get a Ukrainian graduation certificate?
All school graduates of primary, basic secondary and complete general secondary education will be able to get relevant school graduation certificates from their Ukrainian educational institutions, in which they studied before the martial law.
If at the end of the school year an educational institution does not operate due to the armed aggression of the russian federation, graduate certificates for its students temporarily residing abroad can be issued by any educational institution designated by the local educational authority.
If a student is enrolled in the International Ukrainian School (IUS), the IUS will issue the graduation certificate.
11. Is a student temporarily residing abroad obliged to continue studies in Ukrainian educational institution or attend classes at educational institution of host country?
All decisions on the student educational trajectory are made by his / her parents or other legal representatives. They can choose between different forms and combinations of formal and non-formal education both in Ukraine and in the host country.
12. If a school student is abroad and has lost contact with his/her teachers and educational institution, will he/she be excluded from the Ukrainian educational institution?
No student, regardless of where he/she is, whether or not he /she is able to liaise with his/her educational institution in Ukraine, will be excluded from the Ukrainian education system.
13. If a student is abroad and has lost contact with his/her teachers and educational institution, will he/she move on to the next grade?
All school students will move on to the next grade, regardless the types of communication with Ukrainian teachers and educational institutions, and / or types of learning (including self-study) using Ukrainian e-learning resources.
14. What materials in Ukrainian are available to provide children from Ukraine with psychological support and assistance?
Information materials are available at the website of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
15. What are the procedures for restoring education documents (graduate certificates, diplomas) in case of their loss?
If a person has lost an education document, he / she should, contact the educational institution that issued the document, if possible.
Additionally, a person having data on the series and number of his/her document on general secondary, vocational or higher education, can make an e-request and receive information on his / her education document from the Register of education documents at the Unified State Electronic Database on Education (EDEBO) via email. The Register includes information and data on education documents issued since year 2000.
Teachers and educators who have graduated from higher education institutions after the year 2000 and temporarily residing abroad, can also use this resource to confirm their pedagogical education, if necessary.
Moreover, in martial law, persons who have completed basic secondary education (grade 9) or complete general secondary education (grade 11) in Ukraine, but do not have their graduation certificate with them as well as information on the series and number of the document, can get all the information on it from the Register of education documents at EDEBO by applying to the state enterprise "Inforesurs".
