Lisovyi Oksen

Oksen Lisovyi is an educator, volunteer of the 95th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the son of the well-known dissident and philosopher Vasyl Lisovyi.

He studied in Reshetylivka Art School and in Kyiv State Institute of Culture, completed the "Responsible Leadership" program at The Aspen Institute Kyiv, and studied management development programs at the Kyiv Mohyla Business School.

He started his career as a teacher at the Kyiv-Mohyla Collegium, and later gained experience in a leadership position in a business structure - "Ukrtelecom". For the last 19 years he has been involved in transformation in the scientific and educational sphere as the director of the National Center "Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" (abbreviated as JAS).

He expanded his team at JAS from 7 people in 2004 to 300 currently, gradually implementing and scaling new directions and projects. Currently, the JAS network is the largest institution of extracurricular education in Ukraine with more than 250,000 children participating in its projects and competitions every year.


Among the most groundbreaking and media-covered projects of Oksen and the team of the Junior Academy of Sciences are:

  • the opening of the first state Science Museum in Ukraine with interactive exhibits and educational programs. Currently, the Junior Academy of Sciences is forming a network of such museums in different regions of the country.
  • the establishment of "Ukrainian Future," a business incubator of the Junior Academy of Sciences which supports young startup entrepreneurs. Here students improve their entrepreneurial skills with the help of experienced mentors and monetize the results of their research, including attracting tens of thousands of dollars from investors to develop their projects.
  • support for scientific competitions and festivals, the largest of which is the All-Ukrainian Competition for the Defense of Research Works of Junior Academy of Sciences Students, which has been reformed in accordance with international standards with a transparent evaluation system, poster defense, and adherence to academic integrity.
  • the launch of a publishing house for popular science literature for children and adolescents called "Junior Academy" and an educational digital platform with science-pop content (videos, online courses, media, podcasts).

Currently, the Junior Academy of Sciences has 129 partners in 35 countries worldwide, including CERN and NASA. Ukrainian children and adolescents present their scientific achievements and represent Ukraine at more than 40 international events.
