A Modern Climate Technology Workshop Opens in Kyiv: New Opportunities for Vocational Education and Training

A climate technology workshop has been opened at the Kyiv Vocational School of Construction and Municipal Economy, a municipal institution of vocational education and training.
The VET school is a participant in the Fast Track System project, implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and PADECO with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). As part of the project, the college received modern Panasonic equipment — heat pumps and air conditioners — worth UAH 4.5 million. This enables students to train on state-of-the-art technologies.
Starting in 2026, a new vocational qualification — air conditioning systems technician — will be introduced. This will help reduce the shortage of skilled professionals in this sector. The launch of this workshop is a vivid example of successful cooperation between educational institutions, international partners, and the private sector.
Currently, about 400 students are enrolled at the college in the following professions:
- Building finisher
- Drywall construction installer
- Wheel vehicle repair technician
- Information processing and software operator
- Manual arc welder
- Plumbing and HVAC system installer
- Secondary circuit electrician
- Electrical equipment repair technician
- Welder
Skilled trades are a foundation of Ukraine’s economy, especially during the reconstruction period. Our mission is to create the conditions for young people to choose vocational education today — a goal that requires transforming the environment, facilities, equipment, and educational content.
Importantly, the motivation to pursue vocational training should stem not only from labor market demands, but also from students’ understanding that they can fully realize themselves and build a successful career.
The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests who emphasized the importance of this project for the country's education system and economy. Among them were: Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, Dmytro Zavhorodnii, Deputy Minister for Digitalization, Hideki Matsunaga, Chief Representative of JICA Ukraine, Vitalii Poplavskyi, Head of Professional Air Conditioning at Panasonic, and Ihor Khomenko, the director of the VET school. We sincerely thank our partners!
