European Commission to allocate EUR 58 million to modernize vocational education in Ukraine
The European Commission allocates EUR 58 million for the development of vocational education, infrastructure modernization, equipment procurement, centers of excellence, changes in content, training of craftsmen and teachers and development of new educational standards. The appropriate Agreement between Ukraine and the European Commission on the financing of the EU4Skills project was signed on December 17, 2018, in Brussels within the framework of the meeting of the Ukraine-EU Association Council.
" Sometime ago we have unveiled that we are holding negotiations with our European partners on a major infrastructure project for the modernization of vocational education. The agreement was finally inked, and we can talk about the terms of this project in more detail. In particular, it envisages investments worth EUR 58 million. Of these funds, EUR 35 million will be disbursed directly to the modernization of infrastructure, that is, construction, repairs, and equipment. The rest of the funding will be aimed at modernizing the content of education, teaching teachers and craftsmen, etc. ", Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevich said.
Apart from these investments, it is also planned that the European Investment Bank will grant a low interest loan to increase investment in the modernization of vocational education institutions. In order to enshrine these intentions, the Minister also today signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education and Science and the European Investment Bank in Brussels.
The Government systematically invests in the modernization of vocational education institutions. Thus, from 2016 to 2018 UAH 200 million were allocated for the creation of teaching and practical centers - institutions with the best equipment for training specialists in the most shortage professions. 100 such centers have been established over three years.
The Government has included UAH 50 million in the budget in order to continue this program. Due to this, over the next year it is planned to create about 25 teaching and practical centers.
